Employment with Winter Wildlands Alliance

Internships with Winter Wildlands Alliance

As a small nonprofit, interns are valued immensely and immersed in real, quality projects, resulting in excellent on-the-job experiences. For a student seeking experience in the outdoor industry or conservation field, or for skiers or snowshoers looking for an effective way to use their extra time, Winter Wildlands is the place to be. Length and weekly hours for all internships is negotiable; typically, stipends are available.

Scientific Research Intern

Intern is responsible for researching scientific issues related to the effects snowmobiles have on the natural environment and a quality human-powered recreation experience. Specifics include writing abstracts on studies that address snowmobile impacts on wildlife, air, and snow, plus problems associated with noise emissions. Intern will also write fact sheets (briefings) on these studies, and prepare materials for distribution via the organization's Web site. Qualified candidate has experience in research and excellent writing skills.

Volunteer Positions
With a small staff, volunteers play a vital role within our organization. We cannot do as much as we do, in many different places, without volunteer help. Be a part of the Snow Less Traveled and lend a hand or a voice. Here are just a few ideas on how you can help.

In the Backcountry – Is one of your favorite areas being threatened by motorized use? Send us a trip report, take photos and play a part in your local grassroots human-powered organization. Our staff can lend a hand in support and assistance with various regulatory processes, legislation and management actions that affect your non motorized recreational areas. We can also lend a hand in starting your own grassroots campaign and gathering support at the local level.

Events and Programs – Our SnowSchool program has sites across the nation that are always in need of volunteers. If you have a passion for being outside in the winter and sharing that with kids, then we need you! The Backcountry Film Festival travels across the country during the Fall and Winter season, as a volunteer you can host a show or volunteer for this fun event. Our Winter Wilderness Stewardship Project is a community based program that addresses the impacts of winter recreation.

Special Projects – Whether you are in between jobs, are in need of school credit, or have some time to lend in the office, let us know your skills and how you would like to contribute.
